December Meeting
Happy New Year everyone!
I hope you all had a wonderful and relaxing holiday.
For those of you who missed the last meeting of 2013, here is a brief recap of our discussions:
1. Year In Review:
Thank you to everyone who organized and attended all the events we had in the past year. With your help, UTCLC successfully fundraised for research for breast cancer, The Dog Guides of Canada, and the LCIF Typhoon Relief in Philippines:
- September – CIBC Run For the Cure: raised $160.00 toward breast cancer research
- October – Settlers of Catan Tournament: raised $140.00 toward The Dog Guides of Canada
- November – Bake Sale for the Philippines: raised $258.16 toward the LCIF Typhoon Relief Effort for the Philippines
2. Upcoming Events in 2014:
- January – Induction Ceremony: A night for all of our new members to be officially inducted into the club.
- March – Benefit Concert for the Institute of Aphasia: A night of talents at the William Doo Auditorium in New College, where all proceeds will go toward the Institute of Aphasia. More information TBA
UTCLC’s focus for 2014 will be to promote volunteerism and community service. The following are some of the ideas brought forth by members:
- Reading to children at the local Toronto library (This is in line with the LCI reading initiative)
- Getting involved with local organizations like Yonge Street Mission (http://www.ysm.ca/)
- Serving meals at the local Soup Kitchen
